Shut Out by "God"
Hat tip to Jennifer Butler at Transcending Gender for this brief story about a "house of God" that shut the church doors in the face of a trans person.A Minnesota county is refusing to send any more clients to a church that denied care to a transsexual.
The Anoka County Social Services Department had sent disabled senior citizens and other vulnerable adults who need care during the day to Trinity Lutheran Church — in St. Francis.
But the church turned away a client who had undergone surgery to be changed from a man into a woman. Associate Pastor John Maxfield says that’s “contrary to God’s revealed will.”

Minnesota has the strongest anti-discrimination GLBT law in the country because it includes language about gender identity. Anoka county is simply following the law--it can not, by law, send its clients, especially this one who is considered "vulnerable," to service providers that discriminate against GLBT people. jeanne, how wonderful that MN has such a strong law and that they enforce it; and so they should!
Thanks for the link. It is amazing how that article presents the church as the victim! It is like they are shocked at the consequences of descrimination. One would hope the shock would get them to rethink what they are doing.
Right in my area and I hadn't heard about it til now--actually, not so surprising.

You don’t have to look far to find discrimination; just look in our own great state of Connecticut. The Catholic Church does not want to have to give the “Plan B” pill to rape victims because it goes against their beliefs. If that is allowed will they have to recognize “Living Wills”? Will they have to recognize “Civil Unions”? The Catholic Church owns a lot of apartment houses will they have to rent to an unmarried couple?
It is not just in Connecticut that these questions are being raised but also in Massachusetts over adoption by same sex couples, the church will not allow them to adopt so the state has cut off funding to the Catholic charities.
